Nordgreen is a new watch startup which blends Scandinavian minimalism with fine craftsmanship of a leading Danish designer who has previously worked with Bang & Olufsen and other major design brands. Based in Copenhagen, nordgreen created more than a mere watch. Each of our timepieces has a unique story, inspired by local design thought, sustainability and warm generosity. Nordgreen does primarily operate in the online sphere, targeting markets all over the world through localised websites!

The Role

Nordgreen is currently looking for an entrepreneurial and driven Chief Technology Officer to build, manage and monitor our Magento-based technology platform which will serve to power multiple websites in various markets across the world. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundation for the future online growth of Nordgreen. The role requires extensive software development and managerial experience as well as an entrepreneurial mind-set and a strong can-do attitude.

The position will evolve as Nordgreen will grow and expand. In the first three months, a multi-website e-commerce system will have to be established so consumers in various markets can get fully localised experiences when engaging with Nordgreen’s websites. Creating an excellent front-end will be of utmost importance in the first few months; however, the focus will then shift towards heavier back-end activities as well as continuous processual improvements.

Responsibilities

• Technological Execution. To build and manage nordgreen’s technology platform – both from a front-end as well a back-end perspective.
• Architectural Direction, Planning & Technical Management. To drive the technical direction of Nordgreen’s products & services taking into account emerging and legacy technologies. To oversee strategy for both product and bespoke code base platform definition and implementation.
• Process Improvements. To drive and contribute regularly to discussions regarding internal process and system improvements in order to ensure maximum efficiency across the company. Including suggesting technical solutions to problems.
• Security Standards & Data Protection. To keep aware of latest data protection and security threats and to make sure nordgreen mitigate against these risks against known industry standards. To make sure that team/company are aware of these issues.
• Team Leadership. To lead and manage a team of software developers, software interns and prospective technical QA teams. Line management responsibilities will include technical recruitment, appraisals, 121 meetings, identifying training needs, motivating and performance managing the team.
• Team & Succession Planning. To implement improvements to our codebase, processes and knowledge sharing within the team. To plan for team growth considering the blend/level of skills required within team.

Background, Skills and Experience

• Passionate entrepreneurial technologist with +3 years of experience and with a drive to steer and motivate teams in the creation of solutions that are fit for purpose with the flexibility to be solid foundations for extension and scalability.
• Have a B, MEng in Computer Science, Computer Systems, Software Engineering and

related fields.

• Come from a development/engineering background, through Architectural roles to Department Head preferably with experience using Java/J2EE within a Spring framework.
• Able to demonstrate extensive understanding of the web and mobile platforms, from both a technical and a business perspective, having previously had responsibility for high traffic high profile websites.
• Experience of managing teams in an innovative Agile environment.
• Experience in assessing and evaluating 3rd party providers, including contract negotiation and nurturing productive business partnerships as well as co-creation and co-innovation.
• Comprehensive technical knowledge across a wide range of disciplines spanning many areas such as SEO, OO patterns and hardware infrastructure design.
• Experience of cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Ecommerce experience would be extremely useful and is indeed preferred.
