Student Robotics/Computer Vision Engineer

Salary Competitive

There is a lot of talk about robotics these day – at Craft Robotics we do something about it. We are a Copenhagen-based robotics company backed by a leading U.S. VC firm, and we utilize our patent pending technology to create value for the construction sector with a very straightforward value proposition. At Craft Robotics, we are looking for an ambitious part-timer to help us build new partnerships, perform market research, identify new opportunities, and grow with us.

About Craft Robotics:
As unsexy as it might sound, we are building the future of building maintenance robots. But the potential is huge, both in worker safety and financially: Tens of billions of Euros are spent every year maintaining the exterior of our buildings, just in Northwestern Europe!

Our enabling technologies are robotics, computer vision, deep learning and advanced sensor fusion, making our robots have hand-eye coordination similar to humans.

Craft Robotic was founded by empathetic doers, with educational backgrounds from Oxford University, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and MIT, combined with professional experience from 3Shape and past start-ups.

About the role:
Would you like to be part of building a complex and intelligent robot from scratch? A robot that saves and improves lives as well as creates a profit? A robot that will go to construction sites and can withstand a beating, loads of dust and work autonomously in unknown environments? Well, look no further!
In this role you will work mostly with computer vision methodologies and as well as general machine learning. But having knowledge about, or interest in doing, low-level programming (C/C++) of a robotic control system will be a huge plus, as this is also occasionally necessary.
Your work will be quite experimental in terms of technologies and algorithms, however the experimentation is driven by business goals – which are highly likely to be amongst the following categories: Making the robot smarter, safer, faster and more reliable.
Further, you can expect a bit of hands-on work, both experimenting in the workshop, and coming along for tests on the construction site.

Required skills and/or experiences/traits:

  • Experience with and theoretical understanding of machine learning and some optimization
  • Experience with and theoretical understanding of computer vision and image analysis/processing. Both classical computer vision and deep learning
  • Python programming, with libraries such as OpenCV, Numpy, Tensorflow (or another GPU-accelerated deep learning framework)
  • Self-starting and willingness to resolve complex (often algorithmic) challenges independently
  • Understanding of the necessity of writing tests, and preferably experience with mocking objects/classes
  • Studying a relevant academic degree

... And it is additionally positive if you have...:

  • Prior experience with controlling motors and reading sensors via Arduino
  • Written your own serial communication protocols (high-five if this was between Python and Arduino)
  • Web-dev experience or fiddled around with HTML and CSS for static websites
  • Worked programmatically with 2D and RGB-D cameras (such as Kinect, Intel RealSense, or something fancier)
  • A strong academic track record, particularly within relevant courses. The job will require your A-game!

... if you think you don’t fit the above perfectly, but you believe you’re an amazing fit regardless, please do try to convince us! We are happy to be proven wrong, but we do emphasise that an overall sound understanding of the mentioned subjects are a must.

Please apply by uploading the following through the Hub:
•    Resume/CV with most relevant experiences
•    latest grade transcript from higher education, showing results in relevant coursework (merged with the CV to one PDF)
•    a short message (5-10 lines ish) about why you’re interested in working with us and what you look to get out of it

Finally:
We are looking for a colleague to work with us for initially 8-10 hours per week, with potential for this to grow a lot as the months pass (if desired), and starting as soon as possible (posted mid-September 2019). Our office is at the DTU Science Park in Lyngby, north of Copenhagen.

If you have any questions, feel free to send our CEO, Patrick Gadd, an email at patrick@craft-robotics.com
