Exchange Student Program

by DIS

There is a wide range of possibilities for startups searching for new talent. One of them is DIS - Danish Institute for Study Abroad - who run a successful entrepreneurship program with around 25 motivated American exchange students three times a year.

In collaboration with the Hub, DIS match qualified students with startups through internships. The aim is to give the students some practical work experience in Denmark, while contributing back with their knowledge and network back home in the US.

In this connection, startups have the opportunity to have one or two bright and hardworking American students join your team for a semester either from January-May 2018, in the Summer-period or from August-December 2018. The program is free of charge and individual agreements can be made with DIS.

How it works:

  • The student(s) will commit to 5 hours of work per week
  • The work is unpaid
  • The type of work is negotiated individually based on your needs and the particular student(s)’ qualifications. It could be: Social media campaigning, Sales, Business development, Partnership search, Linguistic support, Accounting, and other miscellaneous tasks
  • The work can take place at regular time‐slots or varying time slots depending on needs and availabilities.
  • Remote work can also qualify
  • The student(s) will fill in a log of their activities that you will need to confirm bi‐weekly (signature)
  • You will commit to collaborate with the student(s) in developing a working plan at the beginning of the semester, which identifies the main challenge area that will be worked on
  • You will commit to have an initial meeting with the DIS coordinators at the beginning of the semester, halfway through, and at the end of the semester. DIS will invite you in for these meetings

Who is eligible for a DIS entrepreneurship student?

  • Any startup located in the Copenhagen area regardless of line of business
  • The company must have a validated business model, and have launched, i.e. must have paying customers, or a growing user‐base
  • The size of the company is irrelevant, as long as it is in business
  • Offices are nice to have but no must. The companies can work out of an incubator or accelerator, or in some cases work remotely using collaborative technology
  • Pre‐launch companies will only qualify after an individual assessment

The deadline for the first semester (January-May 2018) is January 4th, so please reach out as soon as possible. If you don't have the opportunity to welcome any student(s) this semester, but are interested in the future, don't hesitate to reach out.
