Industry & Business Analysis Intern - Global SaaS platform for container transport

Salary Competitive

eeSea is a platform for the global transport and container shipping industry, consisting of a large-scale database and a modern web app user interface, utilizing data visualization to a large degree. We sell market intelligence information to various stakeholders in the industry. The team of industry analysts is responsible for researching information about the industry, organizing it, and uploading it to our database, working closely with the Founder in doing so.

eeSea is aiming to disrupt the global container shipping industry

eeSea is a start-up in the global transport and container shipping industry. Our vision is to become the central back-bone platform for the entire trillion-dollar industry; the Google Maps of container shipping.

This requires an eco-system approach, where we work with our industry partners through APIs, collection of big data volumes and deep analytics.

While the industry is big, complex and important, it is also fragmented and inefficient. For years it has resisted digital and technological innovation – now, however, the scramble to be the recognized industry platform is finally on.

The founder has extensive experience from this industry. The team currently consists of the founder, our CTO, our research & industry analysis team, and our business development team; the office is located at Symbion, in Østerbro, Copenhagen. We have recently closed our second funding round and are supported by senior industry figures.

LogTech (yep, it’s an acronym!) as a startup category is heating up; and Copenhagen – with our maritime heritage and entrepreneurial eco-system – is uniquely placed to become the global capital for digital maritime innovation.

Job Description

The team of industry analysts is responsible for researching and digesting information about the industry, organizing it, and uploading it to our database, working closely with the Founder in doing so. The information is eventually the product that we market towards our customers, so high quality work is required.

The data collection and structuring process is still immature and done manually, and we are concurrently working on various scraping and machine learning algorithms to improve it. It is therefore also your responsibility to work with the research team to produce the best possible workflow and guide the development from a business perspective.

Your primary tasks will be:

- web research on container carrier and port & terminal websites, from news sites and other relevant sources of industry information

- simultaneously guide the scrapers in locating and organizing these websites, so the process becomes smarter

- understand and verify the information scraped – the human element. You will come to understand the industry from the top down, and gain valuable business insights and methods in the process

- structure the data into Excel format and upload to our database, ensuring quality input and output. Similarly, upload relevant pieces to our news database

- communicate with data partners and sources when necessary, to collect and verify information

In your application, please outline how you fit the above profile.

Person and Skills

As a person you:

- are proactive, self-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment

- take ownership; when a task resides with you, we trust it will be driven to completion, on time and to high quality

- are structured and able to keep to task lists and timelines

- are able to work focused, hunker down, and get the work done

- are process-oriented – but also like to break and re-format the processes, when necessary

- have experience working with Excel, databases, and analytic tools and methods

- may have previous relevant experience from either the transport & logistics industry, or in an analytical position with a reputed company (not a requirement)

- communicate fluently and effectively in English, internally and with suppliers. In fact, speaking Danish is not a requirement in this job

- do not need to have transport industry experience, but will need to acquire the professional understanding and lingo fast

- are committed to the job and learning experience for at least 4-6 months

- show willingness to develop personally, so we can amplify your learning experience together

- enjoy working as part of a team, with the smiles, grudges, chaos, frustrations, laughter, and good people that come along with the experience

- still enjoy playing with Lego…

What do you get out of it?

Do you dread the heavy corporate structure and boring work routines of large companies? We are a budding startup company, so expect none of that. We offer you an exciting and growing position within a small company, where routines do not exist and where we are flexible and passionate about what we do.

The position is for student internships or recent graduates, it is unpaid, and is expected to last 4.5-6 months. You start in a junior learning position, and will take part in shaping yourself and the company around you. If you do well, we would be happy to see you continue in a paid position of increasing responsibility, as you grow with eeSea.

We believe in and commit to working closely with and coaching our new team members; you provide the energy and drive, we provide the knowledge and experience. You leave better equipped than you arrived.

Working hours are flexible, required tools are provided, working from off-site is allowed, within reason. During the application process you may be asked to take a personality assessment and cognitive test.

We have ambitious dreams to change the container shipping industry fundamentally, but also immediate and realistic targets to become profitable and grow our company.

Working at
eeSea

Global container shipping carries 95% of the world’s manufactured goods. To many, the Ever Given stuck across the Suez Canal was a first peek at the interconnectedness of global supply chains; subsequently Covid put the spotlight firmly on timely goods delivery (or lack of same…) and transport costs; and most recently the industry is started to grapple with its role as a major emitter of greenhouse gasses. Headquartered in Copenhagen, eeSea is a well-established maritime supply chain intelligence scale-up, offering unbiased visibility and predictive analysis. Our vision is to become the central scheduling platform for the entire trillion-dollar industry.
